Canadian National Vimy Memorial
|
Canada's Memorial to her men and women who were killed during World War I was unveiled at the site of the battle of Vimy Ridge on 26 July 1936. Veterans and their families were invited to join a 'Pilgrimage' to the unveiling and to tour the battlefields of France and Belgium. Souvenir covers and a postal stationery postcard prepared by France are shown, courtesy of Mike Street. Mike Street writes: "Wayne Curtis tells me that his uncle made the pilgrimage to Vimy Monument opening. There was so much interest in this event that five ships were needed to carry all the people who made the trip." |
